Software Engineer - Simulation

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer - Simulation to join our Simulation Technology team in Kristiansand, Norway.

In this role, you will help build and maintain advanced simulation environments that enable engineering teams to test, validate, and optimize automation software before deployment. You will work at the intersection of software engineering, industrial automation, and simulation technology, supporting some of NOV's most innovative automation and robotics projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and support Siemens S7 PLC systems in simulation and machine environments
  • Build, configure, and maintain simulation environments used for testing and validation
  • Troubleshoot and optimize simulation performance
  • Support internal engineering teams using simulation platforms
  • Test and evaluate new simulator functionality and features
  • Assist with commissioning, testing, and training activities
  • Maintain technical documentation and configuration records
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across automation, controls, and software disciplines

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support future development of simulation solutions and tools
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Simulation Technology team
  • Participate in projects involving automation systems, robotics, and advanced control technologies

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Software development background
  • Experience working with PLC systems, preferably Siemens
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Professional communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechatronics background
  • Experience with Siemens S7-300 / S7-1500 and TIA Portal
  • Experience with PLCSIM Advanced or similar simulation tools
  • Experience with Beckhoff PLC systems and TwinCAT
  • Industrial automation experience
  • Understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Experience with high-level programming languages such as C/C++
  • Norwegian language skills
